Texas Tech football player Tyler Owens is likely not an astronomy major at the university.
The athlete revealed his thoughts on outer space, earth, and more during a press conference, disregarding proven science with his opinion.
“I don’t believe in space,” Owens detailed. The video was posted on X by Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski on Thursday (Feb. 29). “I’m real religious, so I think we’re alone right now. I don’t think there’s other planets and other stuff like that.”
He continued to explain, “I used to believe in the heliocentric thing. Like, we used to revolve around the sun and stuff, but then I started seeing flat Earth stuff, and I was like, that’s kind of interesting. And they started bringing up some valid points, so… I mean, I don’t know. It could be real. It could be bull. I don’t know.”

According to his ESPN profile, Owens is a 6′ 2″, 210 lb senior from Plano, TX. He played the first three seasons of his collegiate career from 2019 through 2022 with the Texas Longhorns before transferring to Texas Tech.
While suited up as a defensive back for the Red Raiders last year, Owens finished the season with 37 total tackles, 30 of them solo tackles.
