Xpeng becomes first automaker to roll out assisted driving technology in downtown Beijing

Xpeng Motors said on Thursday it has released assisted driving software for Beijing, becoming the first Chinese automaker passenger vehicles able to navigate the capital’s downtown areas independently of a human driver. Pilot users can now access Xpeng’s City Navigation Guided Pilot feature, which allows them to briefly take their hands off the wheel when driving on major highways. The company said it will have an over-the-air update ready for all subscription users “very soon.” Xpeng has been allowed to collect geographic data using sensors on their intelligent vehicles in four Chinese major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen since late last year.
