Xpeng Motors will deploy its automotive driver assistance systems (ADAS) for urban traffic roads without the utilization of high-definition (HD) maps across China during the first half of 2023, vice president Wu Xinzhou told reporters on Friday in Shanghai. Wu added that it was the company’s goal to cut the costs of its assisted driving tech by 50% by next year. On Friday, the electric vehicle maker also began releasing updates of its XNGP ADAS to owners of the high-end versions of its G9 and P7i vehicles in Shanghai, expanding the coverage from Guangzhou and Shenzhen since testing began last September. HD maps are considered a key infrastructure component in the enabling of automated driving functions such as lane changing and traffic sign detection, but the systems are costly for automakers to keep up-to-date.
