Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera Layout And Design Radically Altered For Embedding New Periscope Lens Tech

|

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 12 series in the fourth quarter of this year. A new leak about the top-end iPhone 15 Pro Max camera has offered some interesting insights about the layout, design, and arrangement.

The upcoming premium iOS smartphone series should include four models: standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Only the iPhone 15 Pro Max is tipped to feature a revolutionary periscope lens system that may offer up to 6X optical zoom.

Apple is tipped to re-arrange the layout of the rear camera module on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The rearrangement was apparently necessary to accommodate the new periscope camera technology.

On a related note – the camera arrangement has changed, compared to the 14 Pro / Pro Max.

The Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras have swapped positions – so the camera between the flash and LiDAR sensor is the one with periscope lens on the 15 Pro Max (regular telephoto on 15 Pro) https://t.co/J0QYdPsNH7

According to the Tweet, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will get a new periscope lens system that will be used for the telephoto camera. This will grant the iOS smartphone to have 5x or 6x optical zoom.

Incidentally, the iPhone 14 Pro Max camera setup does have optical zoom, but it is limited to 3x optical zoom. This same setup is tipped to be retained for the marginally smaller iPhone 15 Pro.

The latest leak claims Apple is limiting the periscope technology to the iPhone 15 Pro Max because of the internal space that is needed for the advanced hardware. However, even with the extra space on the slightly larger iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple had to reorganize the camera module and layout, claims the leak.

The rearrangement of the rear camera layout comes after a long time. The last time Apple redesigned the rear camera layout was with the iPhone 11 series way back in 2019.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max Rearranged Camera Layout Detailed

The current iPhone 14 Pro Max, when held in landscape mode with the side button at the top, the 12MP telephoto lens is closest to the top corner of the device. The secondary 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens sits below between the flash and LiDAR sensor.

The ultra-wide-angle lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be placed at the corner of the array, while the telephoto lens will take its place between the flash and LiDAR. It is a simple swap but that apparently makes a little more for the enhanced periscope lens technology.

hmm, if they swapped places, then the telephoto was replaced by ultrawide, so the telephoto is now between flash and LiDAR. No? pic.twitter.com/6pIMcJwAwS

Speaking of enhanced imaging technology, the periscope lens system generally relies on the primary lens to capture as much visual information or data as possible. All this information is then sent to the secondary lens using an angled mirror or prism that reflects or redirects the light 90 degrees.

The aforementioned data is then sent to the digital image sensor. To achieve this with greater optical zoom capabilities, the main or primary image sensor, and secondary lens, are positioned sideways inside the phone to get the longest focal length possible. Perhaps to better arrange this layout and extend the focal length, Apple has rearranged the rear camera setup.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to pack the most powerful ISP Apple has developed. It should benefit from the A15 bionic SoC and the 6GB RAM, which Apple is rumored to have embedded inside the premium smartphone.
