Jordan Harper, a certified aesthetic nurse and founder of Barefaced, shared the anti-aging advice.

The professional explained that the main cause of aging is exposure to the sun.

“It’s estimated that 90% of skin aging is from sun exposure so protect yourself from the sun and minimize exposure,” she said.

“The most affordable anti-aging product [is] sunscreen and sun avoidance.”

She adds a complementing antioxidant alongside her daily SPF that works in conjunction with the beauty product.

“I love vitamin C serum twice daily. Wearing during the day under your sunscreen can boost the SPF efficacy by an estimated 11 times,” Harper explained.

“This also helps to fight free radical damage from environmental factors.”

Harper’s choice of antioxidant is the best-selling Barefaced Liquid Gold, a powerful vitamin C and multi-vitamin serum.

“We chose a 15% L-ascorbic acid as our hero ingredient in Liquid Gold because it is the most well-researched vitamin C available,” Harper explained.

“Unlike vitamin C derivatives, which have to go through a conversion process to become active to start working on the skin, L-ascorbic acid starts working immediately upon application.

Jordan stressed that despite the ingredient’s efficiency, all L-ascorbic acid serums aren’t created equal.

“Just like a quarterback can’t win games without the rest of the team, the same thing applies for L-ascorbic acid vitamin C serums — formulation is key to an effective product,” she said.

While most vitamin C serums can be harsh and stripping, Barefaced’s formulation includes elements to nourish and hydrate the skin.

“Traditional vitamin C serums that are water-based can be drying. Ours is a micro-emulsion making it more hydrating for the skin,” Harper said.

“We also boosted Liquid Gold with additional antioxidants (kakadu plum, vitamin E, turmeric extract) making the formulation more powerful for brightening the skin.”

Harper added that skincare users looking to invest in a more long-haul anti-aging routine can also turn to retinoids.

“Retinoids are essential in any anti-aging routine to boost cellular turnover,” she explained.

“The younger the skin, the quicker the cellular turnover. Retinoids help to keep the skin more youthful in appearance.”

According to Medical Dermatology Associates, it takes cells an average of 28 days to reset, revealing a layer of fresh skin.

As we reach our early 30s, the cell turnover rate slows down, with cell regeneration taking up to 50-70 or more days, causing a wrinkled, dry, and dull look.

While retinol promotes the cell turnover process, skincare fans must invest a minimum of three to six months of consistent nightly application to see results.
