Aimed at selecting and promoting promising startup projects, Speedrun offers a comprehensive package of financial support, mentorship, exposure, and opportunities for early-stage startups in the gaming and technology space. The program operates in close synergy with a16z’s Game Fund One. Launched nearly two years ago, this $600 million fund invests in various gaming-related technologies like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality.

The third iteration, known as SR003, will take place in Los Angeles, departing from its previous San Francisco Bay Area location. It is set to provide a 12-week training program for early-stage companies, culminating in a showcase event during SF Tech Week, as shared by Chen.

Chen added that the 12-week intensive program is highly selective, accepting approximately 1% of applicants, and focuses on startups at the intersection of games and technology. Areas of interest include artificial intelligence, 3D development tools, virtual reality, augmented reality, web3 gaming, and gamified consumer applications.

Each accepted startup may receive up to $750,000 in investment, along with access to industry coaches and mentorship from notable figures in the gaming and technology sectors. Additionally, participants will benefit from networking opportunities within a community of like-minded founders.

A16z recently concluded the latest Speedrun class (SR002) with a successful Demo Day during GDC. The event attracted over 370 investors, representing a collective $500 billion in assets under management (AUM).

Building upon the success of previous cohorts, SR003 is anticipated to cultivate another generation of innovative startups within the gaming and technology sectors. The deadline to apply for SR003 is May 19, 2024. The program will commence on July 29, 2024.
