PS5 Pro ‘leak’ suggests console will be an 8K mega jump in gaming tech for GTA6

The Playstation 5 Pro is going to be a huge jump in console power and like a whole new next-generation of machine, according to experts.

The revamped gaming unit is expected to drop later this year and insiders have supposedly revealed the first details of the upcoming box.

Gamers are already salivating over the improved specifications as Sony prepares to deliver a console that can make the most of next year’s blockbuster release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

While Playstation is refusing to officially comment, several experts in the industry say the so-called spec leak, which talks of 8K resolutions and artificial intelligence, is genuine.

It shows PS5 Pro will be “about 45% faster than standard PlayStation 5” in terms of rendering power.

And ray tracing, used across modern games to deliver high-quality visuals, is said to be getting a huge boost of two to four times that of the standard PS5.

Those who have seen the specs say the console will offer 33.5 teraflops of power in its graphics processing unit.

That’s compared to 10.28 teraflops in the 2020 original machine.

There’s also mention of “PlayStation machine learning” that could see “support for up to 8K resolutions”.

And hard drive storage is said to be a terabyte big.

Rob Dwiar, of TechRadar, said: “This is an enormous jump and represents something that we might see generation-on-generation rather than something incremental, as we saw with the PS4 Pro last generation.”

Wesley Yin-Poole, of IGN, said: “The headline improvements here are to the CPU, which is said to be identical to the standard PS5’s CPU but with a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode’, which amounts to a 10% increase to 3.85GHz, and the GPU, which enables faster rendering and higher quality ray tracing.”

It comes just weeks after Sony has said the current PS5 console is entering “the latter stage of its life cycle.”

Senior vice president Naomi Matsuoka said the company expects the sales pace of the PS5 to start falling from next month after dominating the console wars for four years.

She said: “Looking ahead, PS5 will enter the latter stage of its life cycle.

“As such, we will put more emphasis on the balance between profitability and sales.

“For this reason, we expect the annual sales pace of PS5 hardware will start falling from the next fiscal year.”

PS5 has sold 54.7 million units in just over three years.

Experts suggest the PS6 will come out November 2027 if recent console release patterns are maintained.

At the moment, Amazon is currently offering the original PlayStation 5 for £409. Alternatively, Game is also offering deals on PS5 consoles with savings increasing for Fraser Plus members.

PlayStation were contacted for comment.
