UTech academic staff union reviewing salary scale proposal

The University of Technology Academic Staff Union[ UTASU] says a review of the proposed salary scales under the compensation package received from the Ministry of Finance is currently underway.

Operations returned to normality and members were instructed to resume their duties on January 4 following a meeting with the Ministry.

Students may now access their grades and other services following what has been termed reasonable discussions between the Union and government officials.

But UTASU says it cannot say yet, whether it is satisfied with the proposal.

Dr. Tashieka Burris-Melville, Public Relations Officer for the staff union, gave Radio Jamaica News an update on the issue earlier Sunday.

The academic staff at UTECH took action on January 2 to withhold student grades in protest over what they said was the government’s failure to engage the Union about a compensation review agreement.

Academic and senior administrative and professional staff at the University of the West Indies, Mona also decided against industrial action as efforts are being made to establish an interim salary adjustment while a compensation review takes place.
