Best tech gifts for Christmas 2023: Best Picks shares the seven best tech gifts for the festive season

This Christmas, get your friends and family something they really want and opt for a tech-friendly gift.

Instead of reaching for a beauty-focused gift pack full of soap bars or a gift card they barely remember to use, pick up one of the latest and greatest Dyson haircare models or a pair of Skullcandy headphones.

You’ll certainly be the gift-giver of the year if you select a new set of speakers for the music lover or a Kindle for the bookworm.

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday have finished, your favourite retailers are still offering discounts on tech products across the board, so you don’t have to pay full price before Christmas.

It’s worth shopping around for your tech products with retailers like Myer, The Iconic and Amazon offering a great selection at affordable price points.

But these are my top picks for 2023.

Dyson Airwrap Complete Long in Ceramic Pop. Credit: Dyson

1. Dyson Airwrap Complete Long in Ceramic Pop, $949 at Dyson

I use my Dyson Airwrap every time I have a major event, like a birthday or a wedding.

For someone who hasn’t yet mastered the skill of curling my locks this takes away a lot of the skill required because the air just… moulds to my strands.

But it was truly love at first sight when the limited-edition Ceramic Pop came out because who doesn’t want a pastel hair tool?

Every customer will get a special display case with their Airwrap worth $99 and full warranty if they pay for the device on the Dyson storefront.

While there are certainly various threads suggesting the Airwrap doesn’t “hold” a look for as long as traditional curlers and straighteners it’s the lack of damage and heat applied that’s the real selling point.

2. Therabody RecoveryAir JetBoots, $1,299

Wellness was at the top of everybody’s mind in 2023 after Australians struggled through two years of a global pandemic.

With that in mind, Therabody’s products are the perfect devices to bring into the new year – especially if you’re thinking about hitting a PB or running a marathon.

We have the famous massage gun, the Theragun, that often gets a workout post exercise but the RecoveryAir JetBoots have also caught my eye.

They might look futuristic but this easy-to-use pneumatic compression system makes it easy for anybody to experience the benefits of Therabody’s clinically-proven recovery technology.

Sit back, relax, and recover faster as each boot sequentially compresses the leg to increase circulation and reduce soreness and fatigue.

3. Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, $267 down from $299 at Amazon

If you’re still picking up heavy books and carrying them around in your handbag, you need to clock into Kindles.

I was actually gifted one for my birthday a few years ago and while I was adamant digital would never go hand-in-hand with books I became an almost overnight convert.

The Kindle is easy to operate, stores my entire library and makes buying new books a breeze.

It’s currently 11 per cent off on the Amazon website with other customers calling it “the best little device out there”.

4. Google Pixel 8, from $1699 at Google Store

I’m currently reviewing the Google Pixel 8 — so there is an entire dedicated article coming up about this — but it has completely blown me away.

I’ve been a diehard Apple user since smartphones began but I practically threw my iPhone 12 out the window when the Google Pixel 8 showed me what it was made of.

The camera, while being pretty much the same as the iPhone 15 in MP, has so many excellent extra features including the ability to remove people from a shot or even change a face in a photo to a different one where the subject’s eyes are open.

The technology is groundbreaking and very impressive.

So if you would looking to make the switch over Christmas or gift that change to someone else, I can’t recommend it enough.

5. Skullcandy Rail ANC True Wireless Earbuds, $199 down from $229.95 at Skullcandy

Rail ANC is Skullcandy’s new flagship earbud with adjustable noise cancelling.

“We created Rail ANC with a simple set of design requirements — it had to be the best sounding, best looking, most comfortable, most intelligent earbud ever made, and it had to get better with time. Welcome to the future of future-proof audio,” the website read.

Rail ANC is built with Skull-iQ, a powerful technology that runs innovative voice features and enables new upgrades via the Skull-iQ App.

Hands-free voice controls are available in multiple languages. By simply starting a prompt with “Hey Skullcandy…” you can control media players, summon your assistant (including Alexa and iHeart), access Spotify or even take a photo.

You will have forgotten the Airpods even exist after you’ve tested out these earbuds.

6. PlayStation 5 Console Slim, $779 from Kogan

When the original PlayStation 5 Console launched, gamers were hard-pressed finding it online or in-store for months on end.

So Kogan has very quietly placed the new PlayStation 5 Slim just in time for tech lovers to receive it for Christmas.

The console itself is retailing for $779.

The PS5 console unleashes “new gaming possibilities that you never anticipated,” the website explains.

“Experience lightning fast loading with an ultra-high speed SSD, deeper immersion with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio, and an all-new generation of incredible PlayStation games.”

For the uninitiated, the Slim version has all of the same graphics and features of the original PS5 packed into a 30 per cent lighter in volume console.

7. Marshall Bluetooth Speaker, $499 from Myer

Vintage is back in all over again and why not dip into the past with a Marshall speaker?

The Acton III is the most compact of the Marshall devices so you can transport it around the house and beyond.

Marshall has taken its signature rock n roll home speaker line-up and given it a stripped-back look that makes a loud statement.

If you were struggling for a Christmas present this is sure to make any muso smile.
