Ministry of Agriculture to begin distributing fertilizer to farmers under technical assistance programme

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining through the Rural Agricultural Authority will begin the distribution of some 24,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers.

As part of the ongoing technical assistance programme established between the Kingdom of Morocco and Jamaica, Morocco has provided 1,200 tonnes of fertilizer to be gifted to the farmers of Jamaica to enhance agricultural productivity.

Acting through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jamaica and the Kingdom of Morocco have agreed to agricultural cooperation on issues of soil health, storage and agricultural productivity.

Through RADA, the Agriculture ministry will distribute this fertilizer directly to farmers as well as through various channels such as the Banana Board, Agro-Invest, Jamaica Agricultural Society and Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority for distribution to farmers.

The fertilizer to be distributed will be provided free of cost to farmers and under no circumstances should be offered for sale.

This gift will be used in enhancing the productivity of farmers as the Ministry seeks to drive the recovery of the sector especially following the devastation from the extensive drought earlier this year.
