Technical Officials attend Seminar in Paris to build on expertise and knowledge ahead of Paris 2024

The World Triathlon Technical Officials and Event Organisers Level 2 Seminar held in Paris (11-13 August) in preparation for Paris 2024, was attended by fifteen participants, with 8 attendees from France and other participants from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Ireland and Uruguay, with facilitators Duncan Hough (GBR) and Adele Cheah (MAS). The seminar is not one that is purely knowledge-based, but facilitates the participants to deliver on project plans, engages them in the delivery of event management and includes case studies to allow them to obtain the experience, skills and confidence needed to move into Technical Delegate positions.

Reflections from the participants

Maret Mets (EST)

This course gave a very good overview of how LOC (Local Organising Committee), TD (Technical Delegate) and TO’s (Technical Officials) can and should work together to hold a safe and great event. Facilitators Duncan and Adele did a really good job going through all the important areas and points that TD should be aware and focused on. You can study and memorize EOM (Event Organisers Manual) by yourself but putting this information into the real life is a different story.

Thanks to our facilitators and their enormous expertise we learned from so many different scenarios that have actually happened in triathlon events.

I am looking forward to gaining more experience as TO and it is good to know that there are so many different ways how I can contribute to the development of triathlon.

Hervé Marguin (FRA)

This level 2 training session was a very good experience. It was also the opportunity for me to progress by sharing experiences with other participants from other countries and Adele and Duncan explained each topic with concrete examples they met as Technical Delegate. Practical exercises allowed us to practice and to be creative. It was not only a theoretical training session. Thanks a lot to them. Great!

Petr Jaluvka (CZK)

Thank you for your contribution to this seminar. All is about the people and you and Duncan are really two excellent mentors with great attitude and passion. It could be very difficult to lead such a course but from your attendance, we had gained a maximum amount of information with a nice approach. I was afraid of so much information and new things that you can handle on us, but It was better than I imagined I realised that the main thing you wanted to give to us is the way of attending to others, to be a strong leader and to make right decisions after collecting all possible information about the problem. To be a TD isn’t about knowing all the rules and EOM, it is about making a strong team with the LOC and TOs to get the event on the maximal level so the athletes, spectators and sponsors all get what they are expecting. I will try to remember all the things you said to us and to carry them to my future work not only for World Triathlon but also for the national federation.
