Rate of Saudi women’s empowerment “technically” jumps from 7% to 33%

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia achieved a qualitative leap in the empowerment of women in the technology sector, 33 percent, which exceeded the average of the G20 countries and the European Union.

Abdullah Al-Sawaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said the growth of Saudi women in the technology sector jumped from 7 percent to 33 percent.

The Saudi minister noted that this reflects “the central role established by Saudi Vision 2030 in strengthening the kingdom’s leadership and competitiveness, empowering youth and women, and building a sustainable future for the kingdom based on technology and innovation. ”

In a speech at the G20 Digital Economy Ministerial in India, Al-Sawaha noted that Saudi Arabia contributed to reducing the digital divide in his country and three other G20 countries by 1 percent of the total digital divide. worldwide.

The Saudi minister added: “The digital economy is the greatest social equivalent and economic multiplier because it creates the jobs of the future  and new business models.” But he says there are 2.7 billion people in the world without Internet access and a global need for 4 million data scientists and 4 million cybersecurity professionals.

Regarding Saudi Arabia’s achievements in the technology sector, Al-Sawaha said that the kingdom “provided a pioneering model for bridging the digital divide, as it managed to reach 99% of the total population with digital infrastructure.”

He noted that the kingdom offered “a first-of-its-kind experience in connecting the unconnected world through the Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) program and connecting them to terrestrial networks, an ideal solution to accelerate the reduction of the digital divide.”

The Kingdom also launched the world’s largest virtual hospital, which uses artificial intelligence to provide high-tech medical services, while the Kingdom owns the largest battery storage facility in the Red Sea, with a capacity of 1.3 gigawatt-hours, and uses technology and artificial intelligence to do the biggest sea research. process to protect coral reefs, according to Al-Sawaha, through (AI) artificial intelligence.

In a speech at the G20 digital economy ministers’ meeting in India, the Saudi minister cited “the many inflection points created by generative artificial intelligence, which is expected to create $1 trillion in economic value globally this year and nearly 14 trillion dollars by 2030.”

The purpose of the Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting (DEWG) is to provide policymakers with a guiding vision for digital transformation and economic growth.

It should be noted that the G20 is considered the main forum for international economic cooperation and has an important role in shaping and strengthening the global structure and governance on all major international economic issues, as India currently holds the G20 Presidency from 1- an of  December 2022 to November 30, 2023.
