Australian Company Introduces Glow-in-the-Dark Highway Paint Technology

An Australian company called Tarmac Linemarking has introduced a special type of highway lines that can glow in the dark. They collaborated with Vic Roads and OmniGrip for testing in May. These markings work by absorbing light during the day and then emitting it in the dark, making them visible at night.

The trial was done on a one-kilometer stretch of Metong Road in Victoria’s southeast region. The company has received a lot of interest from businesses about this new technology.

Other researchers and institutions, such as the City of Calgary and teams at Michoacan University of San Nicolas de Hidalgo and the University of Cairo, are also working on similar technology.

The main goal of this project was to improve visibility on roads during low-light conditions, ensuring the safety of drivers and promoting environmental sustainability.
