Chelsea’s new technical director, Christopher Vivell, was put on ‘gardening leave’ by the club in less than six months since he took over, and speculations about why he made this rumoured decision have surfaced.

Chelsea’s technical director, Christopher Vivell, who was put on gardening leave less than a year after joining the club from RB Leipzig, has reportedly resigned from his duties at the club. The 36-year-old was appointed in December to replace Petr Cech, who had left the previous summer, but a change in structure and lack of a definitive role kicked off his new tenure following the appointment of Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley as the new co-sporting directors of the club.

Upon Vivell’s arrival, Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali expressed their delight and confidence in his leadership abilities, citing his successful work in Germany and Austria. He was initially brought in to provide essential support to then-manager Graham Potter. However, Potter was sacked in April, just seven months into his tenure.

According to the Evening Standard, After Chelsea secured their first partner club, Strasbourg, Christopher Vivell was expected to take charge of the multi-club model. However, he ultimately left the club because he didn’t have a clearly defined role in the current structure at Stamford Bridge. This lack of clarity and direction in his position likely contributed to his departure from Chelsea, despite being hired with high hopes and expectations for his leadership role in the club’s technical operations.
