IFC and Viva Tech Open Application For AfricaTech Awards

International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Viva Technology have announced the second edition of the AfricaTech Awards. The awards come as part of IFC’s strategy to support tech ecosystems in emerging markets by providing startups with the capital, market expertise, and networks they need to scale.

The application is open to all founders interested in the awards. They are invited to apply for the awards in three categories which include, climate tech, fintech, and health tech, on the awards’ website before March 12.

What does the IFC and Viva Tech application process entail

The top 15 startups will be shortlisted by Knowledge partner Deloitte under each category. This will be followed by a second round of review by the awards judging panel. After the review, the top three startups in each category will be invited to join Viva Technology in Paris, France in June. At Paris, they will be requested to pitch their innovative solutions in front of a global audience of investors, government representatives, and top tech executives.

AfricaTech award is an initiative targeted at spotlighting Africa-focused companies with innovative solutions addressing key development challenges linked to climate change, healthcare, and financial inclusion.

Founders who win the awards will be privileged to access leaders and top executives in the tech industry. They will also be given increased visibility among global investors, including IFC, one of the largest venture capital investors in emerging markets. Reports say the inaugural edition of the Awards, which launched last year, attracted more than 300 applicants.

IFC and VivaTech aim to create new opportunities for tech companies that are having a transformational impact across Africa, through the AfriTech Awards. While, IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, focuses on the private sector in emerging markets, VivaTech accelerates innovation by connecting startups, tech leaders, major corporations and investors responding to our world’s biggest challenges.
