NetEase announces use of ChatGPT-like tech in new mobile game

On Wednesday, NetEase announced that its mobile game Ni Shui Han, to be launched this year, will include artificially-generated dialogue by its non-player characters (NPC) similar to that generated by ChatGPT. The open world martial arts game (translated as Justice Online or Treacherous Waters Online by players) will include NPCs able to freely generate dialogue with players and act logically in response, the company said. It’s the first time that AI technology similar to ChatGPT has been applied to a game in China to create dialogue, character expressions, voices, and behaviors. Players can communicate with NPCs by typing or speaking directly, and the NPCs will even be able to influence each other. Ni Shui Han has already had its license approved. [IThome, in Chinese]
