Teenagers Favor Big Tech Stocks

Koreans would use their Lunar New Year’s cash gifts to invest in Tesla shares for their children even though the stock has tanked dramatically, while younger people favor Apple.

Samsung Securities polled 300 teenagers recently and found that 35 percent would spend their cash gifts on Apple shares, 23 percent on Google parent company Alphabet, 20 percent on Tesla and seven percent on Amazon.

But when the brokerage surveyed 9,600 parents, 40 percent wanted to give their kids Tesla shares, 27 percent Apple, seven percent Nvidia and five percent Alphabet.

A Samsung Securities staffer said, “Teenagers are less interested in cars than adults and seemed more interested in Apple or Alphabet due to their use of smartphones and YouTube.”

Only 41 percent of the teenagers said they want to put their cash presents into bank accounts, while 58 percent favored stocks. A whopping 48 percent said they already have their own stock accounts.
