Another large Bay Area tech company is shedding downtown San Francisco office space.

After moving its headquarters from San Rafael to San Francisco in May 2022, Autodesk has put 73,000 square feet on the sublease market, the San Francisco Business Times first reported.

The software company confirmed to SFGATE it will retain 211,000 square feet at One Market Plaza and has been redesigning the space to accommodate the changes in the workforce in the past few years.

“Looking ahead, Autodesk believes that our employees will thrive with more flexibility,” a company spokesperson told SFGATE in an email. “As more Autodesk employees take advantage of our flexible workplace options, we’ve reassessed how we use physical office space to support the evolving needs of our team and business. To optimize our global real estate footprint and better support those needs, we have decided to consolidate our San Francisco-based office.”

Autodesk has been making efforts to shrink its real estate holdings in recent years, giving up space in both San Rafael and 300 Mission St. in San Francisco. It is not planning on giving up its office space at Pier 9, the spokesperson confirmed.

There are 2,387 Autodesk employees in the Bay Area, according to LinkedIn. Founded in 1982 in Mill Valley, the company has more than 10,000 employees worldwide.
