The Indian healthcare industry presents a myriad opportunities for innovators to develop tech-enabled healthcare innovations to solve the most pertinent challenges in the sector, particularly in healthcare delivery in remote areas, said entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sandeep Singhal, who is part of the august jury panel for the ZS PRIZE healthcare tech challenge.

Through the use of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, computer vision, and other emerging technologies, there’s a great deal of work being done to enable better monitoring and diagnostics, with the aim of transforming the way healthcare is deployed and done so at scale, Singhal said, in an interaction with Miloni Bhatt, Editor – Digital Broadcast, EconomicTimes.com.

“I think artificial intelligence is having a big impact in healthcare, particularly around decision support systems. So you are starting to see that a person that is sitting in a more remote location is able to access a tool where they can sort of scan something and by just looking at it with the camera on their phone they are able to get more information than they would otherwise,” Singhal said.

The
ZS PRIZE healthcare tech challenge, which is designed by global managment consulting and technology firm ZS, is one initiative that has been able to create impact in terms of solving for the challenges in the Indian healthcare sector, Singhal said. For example, the inaugural edition of ZS PRIZE award saw 2,800 healthcare ideas presented in the initial stages and registrations of around 33,000 participants.

ZS is now inviting startups, professionals and students who are motivated to solve the most pertinent challenges in the Indian healthcare industry to apply for the second edition of the ZS PRIZE award.

“I believe ZS is a phenomenal partner to have when you’re trying to address the healthcare market. The firm has a very deep understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, not just in India, but globally. So they can provide an entrepreneur that’s trying to build a business viewpoint on what has worked… So there is a lot of value, that experience and the collective wisdom of the ZS team in can bring to early stage startup….ZS, is not just providing a platform to give a PRIZE, but it’s also providing a platform where their collective wisdom can be used by entrepreneurs to sharpen their business proposition,” added Singhal.
