A good news day hits like a one-two punch. Techland gave us something cool to talk about yesterday. Dying Light 2 now has a Map Editor developer tool available on PC. Players can now create and share their own maps, but they can also put their creations toward a personal prize.
With this new tool out in the wild, Techland wants to see what players can do with it. From now until January 20th, 2023, players can submit their creation for a chance at a series of prizes. They also uploaded a video tutorial for those interested. Unless you have had some experience in development, modding, or world-editing, the task can seem like a lot.
The map editor allows you to take assets, buildings, and characters in Dying Light 2 and change them in big ways. You can add or remove entire levels from buildings, move burned out cars, or create dialogue trees with quests.
Once you have completed your masterpiece, there are a bunch of prizes to win. There are 10 entries that can win a cash prize of $5,000, which is sponsored by Techland and Mod.io. The community member with the most subscriptions will win a ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 laptop, which is sponsored by ASUS. AMD is also sponsoring a prize of a PowerColor 6800XT GPU and a Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU.
Now that you know what is at stake, go for it! Unfortunately, console players cannot use the editing tool and therefore cannot enter. Fortunately, custom map support will be available for consoles in Q1 2023, so you can at least experience some community creations.
Dying Light 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
