TikTok is hiring as major US tech companies slash staff

ByteDance-owned TikTok keeps hiring as planned while rivals Meta and Twitter are experiencing layoffs and hiring freezes, with the popular short video platform aiming to double its engineers to about 2,000 in its Mountain View, California office. Sources familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal that TikTok also plans to add staff to the monetization team and its newly formed e-commerce team. TikTok Chief Executive Shou Zi Chew said at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore that the company has always been “more cautious” in terms of recruitment, adding the hiring pace has to correspond with global challenges.
