Football season is here—which means guacamole season is, too. Enter the Guac Lock: the gadget-gone-viral that promises to keep your guac fresh and green long after the game.

We know who’s winning the MVP of the tailgate award. The Guac Lock is already the star of this football season. (And every season, if we’re being honest). It keeps your homemade guacamole properly sealed so that it looks and tastes fresh for up to a week. Here’s everything you need to know about this genius kitchen gadget.

What is a Guac Lock?

The culprit behind brown guacamole? Air. The Guac Lock solves that problem by keeping oxygen at bay. A unique elevator design pushes out any excess air, then the lock forms an air-tight seal. That means you’ll be able to snack on savory, irresistible guac all week. Although, we’re not sure that you’ll have leftovers once you try our copycat Chipotle guac.

It also means you won’t have to toss avocados that you aren’t able to eat immediately. Simply peel and press in the Guac Lock. (This herb saver will help preserve other key guac ingredients, too.) With your guac needs taken care of, all you’ll need to think about is picking out the best tortilla chips.

The Guac Lock Features

  • Four sections: green lid, green base, clear container and white elevator
  • BPA-free, shatterproof plastic
  • Stain- and odor-resistant (Need some more help fighting fridge odors? Try Chilly Mama.)
  • Dishwasher-safe
  • Fits up to 4 or 5 avocados worth of guacamole
  • Helps guacamole last up to a week

How to Use a Guac Lock

The Guac Lock is so simple to use, you’ll wonder why it wasn’t invented sooner. (Just like this Gracula garlic crusher, which makes meal prep a lot more fun!)

Start by connecting your container to the base and elevator. Then, place all of your guacamole into the container and push it down. Once you lock the cover onto the container, you’ll place the container on the elevator. Just make sure to keep the hole at the top open!

By pressing down slowly, air is removed from the container. Keep pressing. The container has holes at the top—when the guacamole reaches them, you’ve successfully removed all the air! Close the final tab to successfully seal the container. Your guac is ready to store and enjoy the day after (and the day after that).

Heads up that you’ll want to make sure you have enough guac left to fill the container. If you don’t fill it enough and any air is left in the container, the guacamole will brown.
