From a customer-facing perspective, the bank has pursued a “super app” strategy on Mr Boillat’s watch, whereby it has sought to bundle together numerous financial and non-banking services together on its main banking app.

Mr Munroe will move to Australia and take on the role at CBA from November 14, leaving HSBC where he is currently global CIO for its wealth and personal banking divisions.

Mr Comyn said Mr Munroe was a seasoned financial services technology leader with extensive experience in driving digital transformations.

“Gavin has a proven track record of delivering technology solutions at a global scale, managing and building strong teams, and leading large programs aligned to business strategies and goals,” he said.
