Minister addresses concerns: Egyptian services amidst global tech disruptions

Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, assures that vital sectors in Egypt were not affected by the global technical glitch.

In a statement to Extra News TV on Friday, Talaat explained that vital sectors such as communications, internet, bank transfers, airports and seaports were not affected by the global technical outage. He confirmed that there have been no reports from any users about any service disruptions.

“I have contacted the officials in all these sectors and made sure that they have not been affected so far. I have also contacted the Minister of Civil Aviation and confirmed that air traffic is regular,” Talaat added.

Regarding taking any proactive measures to protect against the possibility of being exposed to the global technical glitch, the Minister of Communications explained that there is no technical proactive measure to take more than what is currently being done, adding that the technical nature of the crisis is still under investigation around the world.

He affirmed that the state’s agencies have taken the necessary precautions to avoid being affected by the global technical glitch. He said that until now, the vital sectors in the country (banks, bank transfers, government services, internet, communications, airports and seaports) have not been impacted by the technical glitch.

The Minister explained that some countries at the global level have begun announcing the restoration of service and its regularity, pointing out that the matter will differ from one country to another depending on their reliance on the programs that have malfunctioned. He added that in the beginning of any cyber crisis, the focus is on resolving the crisis, followed by a study of the causes of its occurrence.

Global media outlets reported a technical glitch affecting computer systems around the world. CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company, said in a statement: “We are aware of reports of a glitch in the Windows operating system on one of our servers,” indicating a technical glitch on one of the company’s servers that is affecting the operations of many media outlets, hospitals, and airports worldwide.

Microsoft explained that it is continuing to address the ongoing impact of the remaining faulty Microsoft 365 applications.
