‘Nabi will leave with his entire technical team’ – ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender warns

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Dominic Isaacs has expressed his concern about Nasreddine Nabi not bringing in a local coach to his technical team.

The 58-year-old Tunisian coach has brought along his technical team, which includes assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Fernando Da Cruz, goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, and strength and conditioning coach Safi Majdi. The team is currently in Turkey for their pre-season training ahead of the new season.

Isaacs, who played for Kaizer Chiefs between 2018 and 2022, said a local coach needed to be part of Amakhosi’s technical team.

“They are great coaches, but my opinion is when that coach leaves, he leaves with his whole technical team. I don’t see anyone from the Chiefs development structures or someone working with the coaches in the long-term who has been at Chiefs for a while and knows the club,” Isaacs told FARPost.

Nabi has brought his technical team to Kaizer Chiefs

The former Amakhosi defender said someone from the Chiefs’ structures would have benefitted from working closely with Nabi.

“Look at Carlos Alberto Perreira; he worked with Pitso [Mosimane]. Pitso learnt a lot from Perreira. That’s my opinion; I would have loved to see someone there from the Chiefs structures that would learn from these experienced coaches.

Kaizer Chiefs still have their former assistant coach, Dillon Sheppard, in their system, but he is not part of the new technical team.

“As it stands on paper, there is no South African or Chiefs coach; Nabi will leave with his entire technical team, and none of the local Chiefs coaches will gain any knowledge from them.”
