President-elect Yoon Seok-youl wants Han Duck-soo to return his old job as prime minister.
Yoon told reporters on Sunday that Han “is recognized for his abilities and expertise regardless of political affiliations, and has served extensively in core positions in government.”
Han is a career technocrat who specializes in trade and served as economy minister and PM under progressive President Roh Moo-hyun.
During the conservative Lee Myung-bak administration he was ambassador to the U.S.
Han told reporters, “On the one hand it is an honor, but I also feel a very heavy sense of responsibility. I will do everything I can to help lead a successful government.”
Yoon is expected to name his picks for key ministers starting next week.
